CCR Editing and Filming

Hey guys today we got some big updates on the ccr.

Today I filmed and edited both videos.

The first video was pretty hard ti film as I had to memorize the script that I had written and the editing it wasn’t as hard. I just had to insert some clips of the project as I was talking about it and put evidence on the screen as I said it.

The second video was easier just because I had the script in front of me if I needed help remembering it but as I had just remembered the whole other speech it seemed easier to remember this one as I was writing it.

In conclusion both videos were different but doing the harder one first helped improve the other. Then the editing felt pretty easy after doing the opening. Something tells me this experience under my belt is going to come in handy.

The end is near…

CCR Research

Hey guys after all the work in the past couple of weeks it's coming to an end but it's not over yet.

Today I will look at the CCR questions and how to respond to them. In a previous blog post Named "Start of the CCR," I posted notes on the CCR that we had taken in class that day. The two ideas for the two separate videos will be the same. One will be in my room looking at the script while the other is going to be an interview that my sister does to me when she accidently finds me in public. I'm thinking of three places to film the interview one is in the park where we filmed part of the project, another is my town's center where it's more public, and lastly just walking around my neighborhood. I'm thinking the neighborhood one might be the one I will do because there would be much less noise than the other options.

Today I'm going to be looking at previous examples of CCRs that previous students of my teacher have submitted in the past. With the help of these videos, I will see what to expand on in my own CCR.

I'm back, WOW! Those were some incredible samples. They were engaging and interesting to watch and didn't feel as if they were a waste of time. Thanks to these examples I have an idea of how to the questions better.

For these questions, I'm going to first look at the background information and then respond to the question. For example, the first question asks how the product uses or challenges conventions and how it represents social groups or issues. I would start by saying how the Drama genre usually represents the sports players and how my product changes it and then talk about the representation of the characters in the opening. This is just the first question but all of them will be responded to like this.

Woah that was a lot but it's what it needed to be. That's all for today, catch me later.

Editing part 2

Hey guys great news... The editing is done!

This is insanely good news because for me and Matias we thought this would be the hardest part of the project. But now that we are finished, we can go back and laugh about it with all the struggles that we went through.

The first is timing the chosen song, which had strong beats with what was happening in the opening. So, as I mentioned before the song would only take place in the training part of the opening, and we thought maybe timing the strong beats of the song with events that are on screen would make the project look and feel a lot better, but the truth is that this was easier said than done. We had to re-film some of the shots just to make this happen. Ultimately, we are very proud of how this worked out for us even though it took a lot of time.

Then there were many problems with the sound and inserting it into the scene of bullying. This scene is the only scene that has dialogue, so we used a microphone to make it sound better than if all the audio came from the phone we filmed on. Getting the audio just took an extra step and made the process a little more tedious when we had to put the dialogue into the scene.

Lastly, the easiest thing was using techniques such as shot/ counter shot to sow dialogue in the bullying scene.  This was the only scene we needed it for because the rest of the opening really just focused on the main character Jake. This scene was really important to the opening because we would've liked to show in the entire movie that the bullies would try to become friends with Jake after he became famous. This technique showed Jake responding to the bullies not with words but by showing how he was feeling at the moment that he would get bullied. Also, because we used this technique so well the audience would kind of feel more sympathy for Jake now that his emotions were shown more clearly.

It was a hard process, but we managed to get through it, and we came out alive on the other side. I will update you guys on the CCR soon but for now peace out.

Filming part 2

Hey guys last blog post on filming. Yay! But the jobs not done.

The filming was in the school (this blog is posted a couple of days later as we are now in spring break but the job is done). The bullying scene as it was written in the screenplay and the shot list was a great way to help us out with the filming and have us a great kind of time line to follow. But even though the shot list was perfect we might cut out some of the shots out to not drag out the scenes.Ill let you guys know if we carry that idea out.

Overall I think the filming exceeded our expectations after learning all the techniques over courses time so I guess the progress is well looked at.

So today we finished filming so that is great news but the thing is the hardest job is yet to come the EDITING.

So me and Matias are both great at splitting the work so like the music editing we will split the whole project in half and then put the song over the final film opening. This part of the project is the most important because it’s the part that puts all the parts together so I guess we verter get to working soon.

But that’s for another day.

(By the way the blog post for filming part 1 was posted early and because i had to change the name just now it looks like I just wrote it but that isn’t the case)

Start of Filming

Hey guys exciting news for today.

We started filming!

Today Me and Matias went to Regional Park one of the locations that I mentioned that we were going to film at. We filmed the opening scene of our film opening the soccer scene It was kind of hard to find a field that wasn't occupied by team training, but we found one and filmed there.

We also had a problem with the sound around the park, but we realized that since there was going to be music over it, so it didn't really matter.

The shots were just as I imagined them and the look of it is just like I wanted it to be. Hopefully, editing will make them look even better and make them the best quality for the final cut.

I'm not going to show you guys the shots to not spoil it and make the final result surprising but trust me everything went smoothly and to plan.

We were lucky enough to complete it and have taken a part of the project off our plate. Now we have the Bullying scene to complete in school and then the scene of Jake going to bed and waking up which we decided that were going to do at my house.

There's only one problem I'm leaving on vacation in a couple of days, so we have to do everything quickly and then edit while I'm away.

Gotta got lots to do for now guys so talk to you later.

Editing part 1

Hey guys welcome back today is a continued version of the music blog post from last week.

So this is just an update on the situation on the song that we had chosen but the only problem was that we had to shorten it to fit the desired length of the scene. I know, a mouthful.

Well we just finished editing the song so that it would transition smoothly from the part that we cut it to to the part that it starts back up. Matias did the first half and then he saved his document and shared it to me. The only problem was that when we did this we had to duplicate the song and cut it again which might be confusing but really it was just having half done and the other part had to be cut and put with the other half. I don’t really know of another way to explain it but this is just to give you an idea of how irritating it was but we did it and it has turned out perfectly.

Even though we edited the song we will still give full credit to the artist when we post the full film opening on any platform.

I’m not going to put the song here so it makes it that much more special when you guys hear it in the project.

(I know you guys are dying to hear about the second part of the filming and I swear it’s coming soon.)

That’s it for today. See you later guys or should I say read from me later.

Song Research

 Important News!

Hi guys so remember when I said that there wasn't going to be any songs in the movie well, I was wrong. Me and Matias have been thinking about and since the first scene isn't going to involve so many sounds, we decide that it would be better to include sound in this scene only.

We found the song searching for an inspirational type of song on a site called Uppbeat. This site gives creators a place to find copyright free music. We also searched through sounds.org, beosound.com and bulletproofbear because our teacher had told us that these sites were ones that previous students had found helpful. But when we looked through those, we weren't exactly amazed at the songs that came up.

We went looking for an inspirational/ hype copyright free song to make the scene look like a highlight reel. The song we came across did just that. The only thing was that it was a little long so we would shorten it so when second 56 of the song come it would transition to minute 1 second 46. From there the song will finish out normally at minute 1 second 51. This gives us the desirable length for the scene and just enough time to show the title as well.

The song is... Drum roll is... Hero's Time by Paulo Kalazzi.

Copyright credits for our music for when we post it on YouTube.

The google drive above is the song but on a google drive because I couldn't find a way to put the song directly onto blogger as its a MP3.

Thats's it for today guys. Peace out!

The start of the CCR

Hey guys today in class we learned about the CCR or Creative Critical reflection.

We took notes and saw a few examples of previous students responding to the CCR. It really got me thinking about what am I going to do. I need to be creative, so I thought I'm most definitely not doing two full videos of me reading off a script most likely I'm going to split the 4 questions into 2 videos answering 2 questions in each.

The best Idea I had was doing an interview-type video answering the first two questions in the places I filmed most likely the school and the park this way the audience feels more engaged and makes it seem less as if they are going to be bored out of their minds watching it.

The second video would be more reflective so for this one I think it would be understandable. So sorry if it's going to be boring but I have to make the video good for the content. These Ideas aren't set in stone but at least the first one probably is.

I haven't started the CCR, and I probably won't for a couple of weeks, but I think it's safe to say that I'm eagerly excited to show you guys what I come up with.

Font research

Today we will look at the different fonts that can help set the tone for the film opening. We will be looking at films in the same genre to inspire us to make our film the best it can be.

The following picture is perhaps the best soccer movie out there. The film's title uses bold letters to really get to see how unique of a story it is and makes it look better overall.

This is the font that we would choose for the title and I know this isn't part of the actual film just the poster.

Next, we have to talk about the font for the credits I was thinking they could be similar to the title font but differ in certain areas like the line in the middle of each letter would have to go. This would give more significance to the people who work on or piece.

That a short one today but because it was pretty straight forward. Peace out

Film locations

Hey guys today I'm going to be talking about where we are going to film the project that we've been talking so much about.
In the first scene, the protagonist plays soccer and trains to bet the best he can. For this, we will be filming it in a public park here in Weston called Regional Park. We thought that this would be the best way to show his dedication rather than him playing in his backyard. The use of the big field could maybe make our audience reminisce about times when they trained alone and felt at peace. For these reasons using an actual field for the opening seems like the better idea.
(This is what the park looks like.)

Then the scene after the training would be when the character gets bullied at his school for never wearing a different jersey and also smelling bad. This will be filmed at Cypress Bay High School this is mine and Mati's current school. This makes it more accessible for us to film in. Also, since the school is nice it contrasts Jake the protagonist by making him look like he is part of a lower socio-economic level than the rest of the kids at the school. this is not confirmed whether he is poorer than the rest of the kids at school. Making our school the best place to film this scene.

(This is a drone view of our school.)
Lastly, two scenes take place in the same room. This is where the protagonist goes to sleep and wakes up with his phone bowling up. The room is still being decided on whether it be mine or Mati's, but the room will have the same things inside soccer balls soccer Jerseys, and more. This will make the audience understand the level of obsession Jake has to be a pro. Either room would be perfect to show how a normal high schooler can make it pro no matter where they come from.

That's it, for now, Peace out!

Storyboard

Hi guys, sorry it took me so long to get back to you. But I couldn't find the time to post these blogs.

That's beside the point of today.

Mati and I created the storyboard today. Mati drew and I described what was going on in the scene with the text below each block. I'm not too worried about the drawings even though they weren't the greatest, but the text is basically summarizing our script.

The storyboard consists of 9 frames just to organize the story a bit better. So it can help us film later.

The plan is to make the opening scene just the protagonist training and make it during the night to make it seem as if he woke up super early to go train. This could show the dedication he has to make it pro. After this scene, the opening is going to introduce the title with the font that I will confirm in a later blog post.

Then the protagonist would go straight to school dirty and sweaty. This is when he gets bullied and gets embarrassed in front of a lot of people.

Later, the protagonist goes to bed, and when he wakes up to a bunch of messages congratulating the opening will end.

That's all I have for today sorry It was so short but hopefully the picture of the storyboard helps.

Script

                                                                         Rise of a Baller

1. SOCCER TRAINING. SOCCER FIELD. EARLY MORNING

The film starts with JAKE playing soccer. It's very early as the sun isn't even out yet and there is no one around. This scene will be quiet other than the heavy breaths from JAKE and the touches on the ball.

The camera pans upwards and the title is presented. Rise of a Baller.

2. BULLYING. SCHOOL. MORNING.

Jake doesn't have enough time to go home and get ready for school, so he goes to school dirty.

                                                                              BROCK (Bully #1)

Hey JAKE when are you getting new clothes?

(Starts laughing with other bullies.)

(JAKE tries to ignore them because he just wants to go on about his day.)

                                                                               DIRT (Bully #2)

What a loser. He can't afford to even shower.

(Bullies start laughing again)

(JAKE is mad and filled with embarrassment and anger but does nothing about it.)

3. GOING TO BED. ROOM. NIGHT.

(JAKE walks out of the bathroom having just showered.)

(Then he looks around the room looking at the posters of his favorite team that he hopes to play for.)

(Lays in bed and falls asleep.)

4. WAKING UP. ROOM. EARLY MORNING.

(JAKE wakes up to his alarm and sees all the messages from his parents and friends that congratulate him.)

That's when the film opening ends.

Mise-en-scene elements research

As I mentioned in my previous blog the film opening is going to include a couple mise-en-scene elements to bring the whole project together. Today I'm going to be looking at a few different videos and films that used some mise-en-scene elements to develop the meaning.

The first video is a mini movie FIFA (Federation Internationale Football Association) made. They created a mini movie on the world cup final. Even without the title you can tell that the movie is going to be about a big soccer game. The video creates a tense feeling to the audience because the world cup final is really that and more. The most watched sports game in the world is the most important game around the globe. What FIFA did was create an opening to the actual game basically showing around the locker room of both teams before the game. Player shirts, gloves, and even the ball the game was played with were shown and as an Argentine and soccer lover I felt for a second that I went back to the most important day of my life. In my film opening I'm going to try to use this by getting things that my audience is connected to and expand from there. Let me explain. The audience for my movie is every teen of male of some sort that has ever wanted to go pro for soccer. In the film opening I'm thinking of adding things that they do everyday to sort of connect them to the character like practicing most days. But when the character gets bullied then they can be mad at the people instead of just not caring much.

The second film opening I will be looking at is high school musical. I know you're thinking what does that movie have to do with his film opening but in reality all that I'm taking away from this film is its costume design because holy did they do to good. The character were so easily identified as students when they were shown with back packs. But when they were shown with different outfits people could tell their personality with out thinking twice. In my film opening I'm going to incorporate this in the school bullying scene. The bullies are going to be wearing a rugby shirt from their club that they play with normal back packs. The main character is going to be wearing a worn shirt with sweat stains and all over plus a torn/ used backpack to show that the player doesn't have money to go around.

The End

Hey guys after these past few weeks of hard work the job is done. Today I did some final touches on the project, and I am glad to say that ...
