Music Marketing Blog Post #1

The first part was receiving the song which is “The Righteous One” by “The Orwells.” The first thought we had was to create Music video telling a story about each character of the band. The singer would be mostly involved the drummer would have 30 seconds and the guitarist would have 1 minute. But we thought that it would be to difficult to fit it all in one. This reasoning gave us the idea to just revolve the story around the main singer but have snip its of the band performing the song.

The planning followed this idea. The plan was to split the filming in two days. The first day our group would split in two as we have to sets of neighbors so the neighbors film their parts of playing a their instrument. The next day we will be filming all together to film the part of telling our story. Then edit to differentiate the parts of the story and playing instruments.

The marketing part starts off by finding the targeted audience of Punk Rock. Since the audience is from the ages 35-50’s. This audience uses little social media but they sometimes connect through there especially on Instagram, twitter and Facebook. That’s why accounts are on there to promote this genre of music. Sometimes posts on web pages of either the ban or the record label.

Representation Blog Activity

 The show I chose is All American. This show starts of with a player of high school football moving from his hood of Crenshaw to getting an offer to play at the Beverly hills high school which represented a lot of changes in the social group that he hung out with.

In his hometown of Crenshaw, the main character Spencer James has a group of close friends that are represented as less fortunate financially demonstrated by what they wear and the way they act. When he is transferred to this expensive neighborhood of Beverly Hills the Spencer feels more uncomfortable with his team and the people there overall. The people in this high school are also represented as completely different as his friends back in Crenshaw. These people wear classy fits, are well organized and look like people that are going to follow their parents' footsteps. The different people in his life represents how different it is in where he lives and where he has to go to school which demonstrates his discomfort around the new society he has to integrate with. As far as if they represent students the costume design does it well by looking at modern day students and making or buying clothes of that sort.

The main issue that they try to solve is BLM movement. This is shown in the first episode that was released after quarantine. This was shown because the BLM protest that happened during the pandemic showed a great concern for the safety of the black community when they met police. As this show represented the future of what would be the black community, they needed to speak up on this and it showed how they fully supported and helped this issue to not get worse. 

This show demonstrates the common issues of the students nowadays as well as global problems around the world. The fact that they are represented well compares the characters to people in the real world that are similar to them and want to make the world a better place.

2. Always having trouble defeating the paranormal activities making the main plot always the same.

3. A rather dark setting and irregular shots and angles make the scenes more unsettling and uncomfortable for the audience. This makes the audience become more unsettled and be scared easier. Also normally there is either complete silence in one of these films or screaming to create an easier tense to go off of. The last thing they usually do in horror movies is put tense music to unsettle the audience.

4. Normally the main villain or monster is thrown out there to intrigue the attention of the wanted targeted audience.

This trailer shows exactly the way the technique of marketing that they used showing the main villain that was this girl entity that had killed herself. This clip also shows how the genre conventions content and production are also used because most shots were dark and were at weird angles.

This trailer right off the bat shows the main marketing technique of showing the main villain first as a portrait was the only thing you could see. Also the audio or music in this trailer was put in to do as the technique says to make it clear that it was a horror movie and from the start tell the audience that it's not a calm movie.

Sound Project

  The sound project that I had in mind was a girl walking into a party and catching her boyfriend cheating.

Me and my partner developed this story by creating a realistic timeline of how things happen. For example, first it started off with sound of getting out of the car and parking. Once the car doors were closed the sounds of nature started which were mosquitos wind and noises of trees. At the same time there is music muffled but getting louder the more footsteps you heard indicating getting closer to the entrance. Then the transition of the outside noises changes when the house door opens and the main sound changes to the music. Then the main character asks where Jake is. Which is the boyfriend, and the friends say they haven't seen him.

Later the girl walks away and pours herself a drink where you here party noises like people getting in the pool and a lot of people talking then when the music starts getting lower and more footsteps are being heard the character is trying to find "Jake" because she wants to talk to him. Then when you hear a room door opening everything goes muffled and the scream of Jake screaming "No!" makes it abundantly clear what she walked in on.
